Here is American Character's Toodles doll, and she truly is an unusual vintage beauty, not only in the way she looks but also because of the materials used and how she was constructed. Toodles is from the early 1960's.
Her vinyl is an unusual material that was called lastic plastic I believe... I read somewhere about the vinyl she's made of but cannot find it now. She is made of softer, more elastic blow molded vinyl that is foam injected. I have an American Character Butterball doll in the shop which is made of the same material. It has a tendency to lose it's pink color with age, which makes the dolls look "antique" due to the pale porcelain type color that develops.
Toodles has good face paint and rosy cheeks. Her brunette hair is perfect - long and shiny, no cuts, no frizz.
Toodles has the beautiful "follow me" eyes. They deepset the lens and pupil within the eye so it gives the impression that the eyes can look at you from anywhere in the room, when they are actually fixed in one position. Toodles has sleep eyes with very long glamorous full lashes. However, the eyes do not sleep anymore. They are fixed. This is the only thing I can find wrong with the doll actually and it doesn't seem to matter much because the Follow Me eyes give her life.
Toodles is dressed in a very special party dress of sheer nylon over a yellow underdress, and trimmed with fancy ribbons and lace. She is wearing lacy yellow socks with white infant dress shoes that also have lace trim and rosettes. She is wearing yellow flowered bloomers underneath. She is approx. 22 inches tall. Toodles is an outstanding beauty in lovely condition. Vintage American Character Doll.
