Lovely Tiny Tears 19" Babydoll by American Character. This Tears Tears doll was made in the 1950's.
This large babydoll is unmarked, which was not unusual for the dolls with a hard plastic head. Some dolls were unmarked if they were sold as a department store Holiday doll in upscale stores such as Macy's or Dayton's.
Tiny Tears has a hard vinyl body with a hard plastic head. The wig is rooted saran, which is rooted through vinyl and applied to the hard plastic head. Her face is very special, with round baby cheeks and a rosebud mouth. Her eyes, face paint and hair are perfect. She is an extraordinary 1950's babydoll.
American Character made their Tiny Tears with vinyl body and hard plastic head until 1959S so she was (most likely) made between 1956 to 1959. I don't think she was ever played with. Her saran hair is perfect with lovely short curls and a fringe of bangs in front that is shiny and perfect. Her face color is almost pristine except for a little scuff on the tip of her nose which has been touched up.
The mouth on this little babydoll is so cute, she has a surprised "Oh" expression with her wide eyes and ruby lips. Her eyes are clear and lashes perfect.
Sleep eyes/ rocker eyes work very well but you have to tilt her way back for them to close. Her body is hard, heavy quality vinyl with the separated toes. She is jointed at hips and shoulders. This is a big babydoll, 19 to 20 inches long.
